Keep these on the invoice even when the project felt casual
- Which scope note the fixed price came from. This one points at July 9.
- A staging link or delivery date, so "done" is a fact.
- Hours only for work that was not in the fixed price.
- Pass-through costs labeled as costs.
- The deposit, subtracted, so nobody pays it twice.
New client, deposit first, then 14 days
Harbor Books had not hired Pixel Lane before, so the deposit landed before the kickoff call. The balance is due 14 days after the staging link went out. That is short enough to stay attached to the work and long enough to find the right card. If you want a late fee later, the percentage has to be in the note they agreed to at the start. Do not debut it on the overdue invoice.

Can one freelance invoice mix a fixed price and hours?
Yes. Keep the scoped piece fixed and put the later addition on an hourly line. Here the homepage stays at the July 9 price, and the two interior pages that were added afterward are 7 hours.
Why take a deposit from a new client?
This sample collected $500 before the kickoff call, then credited it. You are not floating the whole build. Returning clients may not need the same step. Decide that before you start, not on the invoice.
How do I pass through something I bought for the job?
List it at what you paid if that was the deal. The stock photos are $49 with no markup. If you mark costs up, say so on the line instead of hiding the bump inside the hourly rate.
What due date fits this kind of project?
Fourteen days after the work is on staging, in this example. The staging link is named in the client block so they can check the pages while they pay. Longer terms belong in the agreement if the client is a larger company. The payment terms guide walks through the choices.
Where do I send someone who is already late?
A short note first, from the reminder templates. If that does not move it, the late-payment kit has a firmer sequence. Add a late fee only when the rate was written down before the work started. This sample does not invent one.
