Towing invoice template

Updated October 2026

A tow invoice is a map with a clock on it. The owner needs the pickup, the drop, the hook time, and which extras were real. This sample is a late private-lot tow with a short winch and a storage line you can delete.

Example prices for one private-lot tow. Not a city rate card. The car is a 2014 Camry, plate EX-104, both made up. Pickup and drop are written out because a tow bill without those two places is just a number. Loaded miles are 8 in this story, separate from the hook. The winch is its own line because the car was off the pavement. Delete it when you did not winch. After-hours is on this ticket because the hook was at 11:40 pm. A daytime call would drop that line. Storage is day 1 only, and only if the car is still in the yard when you hand this over. If they ride with you and pay at the drop, delete storage. Release rules, signage, and what you may charge are not the same in every city. Check your state's rules, and the local ones, before you treat this layout as complete. Due when the car is released.

The generator loads the Camry, the two addresses, and these five lines. North Lot Towing stays on this page and in the files. A shop name you already saved is not replaced.

Write these before the car leaves the yard

Due when the car is released

Riley Chen pays to get the Camry out, the same night in this story, unless storage applies because the car stayed. Cards, cash, and checks are the sample methods. There is no tax on the example. Add one only if your tows are taxable. A repair shop that fixed the car afterward would use the auto repair template, not a second copy of this tow.

Hook, miles, and the yard

What has to be on a tow bill besides the total?

Where you hooked the car, where you dropped it, and when. Year, make, and a plate help the owner recognize the vehicle. This sample uses a made-up Camry and plate EX-104.

Why split the hook from the miles?

The hook is for getting the car onto the truck. Miles are for moving it. Combining them makes a short tow and a long one look like the same product. Here the hook is flat and the miles are 8.

When do I add a winch line?

Only when you actually winched. This car was off the grass edge, so the winch is $75 in the example. A car that rolled on with the wheel lift does not get that line.

Is storage automatic?

Not in this story. Day 1 of yard storage is listed so you can delete it if they pay and leave with the car the same night. Leaving it on a release-at-the-scene ticket is how arguments start.

Can I copy these amounts as my legal rate?

No. They are examples. What you may charge, what signs a lot needs, and when storage starts are local questions. Check your state's rules, and the city's, before you print a rate from this page.
