Roofing invoice template
Updated October 2026
Roofing invoices get argued in squares and layers. A square is 100 square feet. This sample is a 24-square reroof with one old layer to tear off, flashing and a dumpster in the open, and a deposit already collected so the shingles could be ordered.
About 2,400 square feet. Shingles, tear-off, and underlayment all use that quantity.
A second old layer would be more tear-off, not a quiet add inside the first price.

What belongs on the completion bill
- Job site, and a rough size stated as squares.
- Shingles, tear-off, and underlayment, each per square.
- How many layers came off.
- Flashing and edge metal, not buried.
- Dumpster or other disposal.
- Permit fee, if you pulled one, as a pass-through or a labeled markup.
- Deposit credited.
- Claim number only when a carrier is involved.
Deposit before the order, balance when the yard is clean
The $2,500 in this story was collected before materials were ordered. This invoice is the end of the job, due the day the crew finishes. It is not a progress percent and it does not hold retainage. If you are billing a larger contract that way, the construction template is the one with a schedule of values. A smaller exterior repair that is not a roof system fits the contractor draw better than a per-square takeoff.
Squares, tear-off, and the deposit
What is a square on a roofing invoice?
One hundred square feet. This sample roof is about 2,400 square feet, so shingles, tear-off, and underlayment all use a quantity of 24. Billing by the square keeps the takeoff visible.
How do I bill a tear-off with more than one layer?
Add quantity, or add another line, for the extra layer. Do not bury a second layer inside the first tear-off price. This invoice is one existing layer at an example $40 a square.
Why is the dumpster separate?
Because disposal is where the number gets fuzzy if it is hidden in the shingle price. The sample lists the dumpster at $425. Flashing is separate for the same reason.
How should the deposit be credited?
As a negative line for the amount you already collected to order materials. Here that was $2,500. The total due is the rest, payable when the crew is done and the yard is clear.
Where do I put an insurance claim number?
In the job block, and only if there is a claim. CLAIM-EX-1001 is fictional. Delete it on a retail job. What the carrier wants on the paperwork is up to them and to your state. Check your state's rules, and the adjuster's instructions, instead of copying this note.
