Electrician invoice template

Updated October 2026

Electrical invoices should let a homeowner count what landed in the wall. This sample is a panel visit and a new kitchen circuit: a service call, hours, breakers, cable by the foot, devices, and a permit that may be inspected later.

Example prices

Fictional circuit invoice from Volt and Timber Electric. Breaker, cable, and permit prices are examples so the material count stays visible.

Example prices for a small circuit and panel visit. Not a bid. The service call and the labor hours are separate. Materials are listed as breakers, cable by the foot, and a devices bundle so the count can be checked against what is on the wall. Permit # PERMIT-EX-1001 is an example number. The inspection may be on a later day. This sample still bills the permit fee now, and the note says the inspection is scheduled, not that it has passed. Do not write 'passed' until it has. License #: put it in your business details. This generator will not overwrite those details if you already saved them. No tax on the example. Due in 14 days. Whether a permit is required for this kind of work depends on where the house is. Check your state's rules, and the city's, before you copy the permit line onto every job.

The generator brings in the circuit lines, the Birch Lane job site, and the example permit number. It will not replace a license number you already keep in your business details.

A short list before you hit send

  1. Job site, especially if the bill goes to a different address.
  2. License number with your business details.
  3. Permit number, when there is a permit, and an honest status.
  4. Service call and labor hours as two ideas, unless your first hour is inside the call.
  5. Devices and cable in quantities a person can match to the wall.
  6. The inspection fee if it is part of what you paid out.

Fourteen days, even if the inspector comes later

The sample is due October 17, two weeks after the work, not on the inspection date. The permit fee is still owed now. Waiting for a city calendar to pay you is how a finished circuit becomes a free loan. If your agreement says otherwise, follow the agreement. The payment terms guide is the longer version of that choice.

Service calls, materials, and the inspection

Why is the permit not buried in labor?

Because the client is paying the city, through you, for a specific permit. This sample lists $160 on its own line and puts the example permit number in the client block. Mixing it into the hourly rate makes the inspection impossible to reconcile.

How should wire and breakers be listed?

In units someone can count. Three new 20A breakers, and 75 feet of 12/2 cable at an example price per foot. A devices bundle covers the outlets and the switch when you would rather not price every cover plate.

Is the service call the same thing as labor?

Not on this invoice. The service call is $95 to open the job. The four hours are the panel and circuit work on top of that. If your service call includes the first hour, subtract that hour from the labor line and say so.

What do I write if the inspection has not happened yet?

Write that it is scheduled, or that the permit is pulled, and stop there. This sample does not say the inspection passed. Do not write passed until it has.

Where does my license number belong?

In the business details that print under your company name. The download shows an example license, EX-EL-220. Whether this kind of job needs a permit at all depends on the city as well as the state. Check your state's rules, and the local ones, before you add a permit line to every outlet.
